Prof. Mauricio Herrera is a globally recognised Consultant Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Fetal Surgery and Therapy, Fetal Cardiology, and Fetal Neurology, with more than 25 years of clinical, surgical, and academic leadership across two continents.

Since February 2025, he has served as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Head of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Institute at Burjeel Holdings and Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE, while concurrently holding his position as Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine & Obstetrics at Colsanitas Clinic – Keralty Holdings, Bogotá, Colombia — one of Latin America’s foremost MFM programmes, which he has led since 2001.

He is the founder and Director of the International Center for Fetal Therapy and Surgery (Colsanitas Clinic) and Director of the first accredited Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship in Colombia. He is the originator of the “Sad Face” Sign — a novel pattern-recognition marker in the 3VT view for prenatal diagnosis of d-Transposition of the Great Arteries — and leads six active research lines. He has trained more than 1,800 physicians in fetal cardiology and neurology, directs a global MFM online network, and is an ISUOG Fellow and former ISUOG Board Member (2014–2019).
